5 Gifts for Homemakers Brianna Hart, November 23, 2023December 4, 2023 “Femininity and dependency are not weaknesses, and a life of serving mustn’t be viewed as unsuccessful. To have the responsibility of keeping a household is not oppression, it is a reward.” Homemakers are the unsung heroes of our generation. You heard me! I used to think that the biggest goal in life was to climb some crazy corporate ladder. Thankfully, I shook that out of my system during my twenties and by my thirties I realized, the biggest goal in life was to raise a family. Perhaps our infertility battles played a part in this, I’m not sure. I do know, I don’t take being a mom for granted and I’m constantly striving to find ways of stepping out of the rat race. Homemakers still work hard, probably harder than us 9-5’ers anyway. Let’s spoil them up properly this year. Here are 5 gifts for homemakers that will either bring them joy or help them in their day to day life. Apron(s)A lot of homemakers believe that one just isn’t fully dressed without an apron. To be honest, I love wearing my aprons. I wear them the most around the holidays when I do a lot of baking. Back when I was running my side-hustle business baking cupcakes I was always dressed in an apron. They are the best for grabbing things out of the oven quickly and they’re easier to wash than clothes. I dream of waking up, donning my apron, and making my kids breakfast. I know it seems mundane, but it’s truly a gift in itself. Aprons can be custom made on Etsy, made by hand by you (there are patterns on Etsy too), thrifted, or go to an antique shop and find some vintage ones! The vintage ones are often a great material and they are super beautiful too.Stoneware Bowl(s) or Stainless Steel BowlsI know I said 5 gifts for homemakers but this one might count as two. For my purposes, I’m putting these together but this doesn’t have to be an either or situation. The stoneware bowls are simply stunning and they are very hardy for all of the mixing and cooking that is done by the homemaker. Stainless steel is timeless and a little easier on the budget. However, the stonewear are a little fancier and much heavier duty than the stainless. I like to have many different bowls of shapes, sizes, and materials in my house. When I’m cooking and baking a lot they all seem to come in handy. I do love the stainless bowls because I can take them out to the garden and pick our fresh produce in them too. Tip: If you grab the stonewear from Amazon you may need to pay shipping but if you are grabbing them from Lehman’s you can watch for free shipping or spend enough to get it. Sourdough Starter and/or ToolsIf your homemaker doesn’t have a sourdough starter, she’s probably thought about getting one. This is a gift that she can use whenever she wants to use it. My sourdough starter has been in my fridge for a couple years now because I just haven’t had time to use it! It’s a great gift because it’ll keep giving for years and years. Now, if your homemaker already has a starter she may still be able to use some sourdough supplies. The stoneware or stainless bowls still fit here. However, you could also go with a dough whisk, bantons, or a bench scraper. All of these are great. One other thing that I love is a silicone mat for the counter. I love this thing for all of my baking, it’s perfect for making tortillas! It makes the messes much easier to clean up.Linen SheetsI know you are thinking that linen sheets would be a terrible gift. Who wants bedding for Christmas? Well, the reason I’m putting this on the list is that they are expensive, especially if you have a king size bed! Even on sale, these babies cost a pretty penny. They are something that a lot of people aren’t going to just up and buy. Homemakers typically put others before themselves, it’s just part of their work, but we’re looking to spoil them. A nice set of linen sheets to rest their bones on will do just that. CookbooksThis one could be a long one. There are so many different cookbooks that I could recommend here. However, you do have a couple of options. You can have their recipes made into a family book, which would be a very special gift while also being very helpful. Another option would be to get them a blank recipe book so that they can fill it with their recipes. The other thing to do would be to buy books from others so they can try some new recipes. The ones that I highly recommend include:The Prairie Homestead Cookbook The Homemade Pantry Half-Baked HarvestBonus Item: QuiltMy list of five gifts for homemakers wouldn’t be complete without a bonus item! Quilts are not only practical for warmth but they are simply stunning pieces to have around the home. They add so much character and beauty to have around the house. This is another item that typically comes with a, well deserved, price tag. If you can’t find them thrifted they are often expensive and finding them thrifted typically is just simply luck. Etsy has tons of handmade quilts though and they are well worth the money as their makers pour their heart and soul into them. In Summary: 5 Gifts for HomemakersHomemakers are the heart of the home. So often the things they are purchasing center around practicality over joy and beauty. The best part of this list of five gifts for homemakers is that they really do both. They can be a great way to bring beauty into the home without bringing clutter. Being a homemaker can be thankless and these gifts will help show appreciation for these hard working women.
