No really, we skip the 30th birthday parties and there’s not many girls or guys nights. Our days of bachelor and bachelorette parties are also over and most of our friends are through having children so we don’t have baby showers to go to either. Why am I telling you this? Well, you aren’t going to find many party recipes here. There aren’t a ton of appetizers and if we have them, they are protein packed like our favorite sausage stuffed jalapeno peppers. Around Christmas, we decided that instead of going out to eat for our New Year’s dinner, we were going to have an appetizer type dinner. Still wanting some protein but wanting it to be fun, I decided to whip up these easy cocktail weenies. Slow Cooker RecipeFor this recipe, you will need a slow cooker like a crockpot or an Instant Pot. We have both but because I was transporting these to another location, I put them in the crockpot. If you weren’t aware, the Instant Pots (or Ninja Foodi in our case) have a crock pot function on them so they serve many different purposes. It’s honestly one of the main reasons that I love them. However, I’m also interested in the more non-toxic versions of crockpots though too. If mine breakdown anytime soon I’m going to go for one of the GreenLife brand slow cookers.Ingredients16 oz BBQ Sauce 8 oz Jam/Jelly 2-3 packages cocktail weeniesDirections for Cocktail WeeniesPlace cocktail weenies in the crockpot.Dump in the bbq sauce and jam/jelly. Mix well.Allow to cook on low for a few hours or high for about an hour or two. You’re really just trying to heat the weenies through. Tips & TricksJust a quick note on the jam/jelly. You can use any sort of flavor that you want with this recipe. We typically have blueberry, strawberry, and grape on hand. The jelly is just going to add some sweet to the savory of the bbq sauce and I’ve found that all of the flavors of jelly that we’ve used compliment with the bbq sauce. Well, this year we had some grape jelly that didn’t set so I decided to throw that into this recipe. This is why I always say don’t throw away your jelly that didn’t set! In addition to these other ways I’ve already shared, there are many different recipes and ways to make sure that even though your batch failed, it doesn’t go to waste. Feel free to mix and match too- use up all the “ends” of jelly you have laying around.I was lucky enough to be able to make this even a little more healthy by using our homemade bbq sauce. The recipe has not been perfected yet, so I’m not ready to share it (sorry). However, as with the jelly, you can use whatever flavor and variety that you want. If you are a person who likes spicy food then by all means add some heat with this portion of the recipe. If you like things to be extra sweet then you can use a sweeter jam or jelly. The same rule applies here too, can always mix and match to use up the “ends.”In Summary: Cocktail WeeniesThis is seriously the easiest thing to make. I loved making them this year because even though it’s a crappier version of protein, it still provided some nutrients. Plus, it allowed me to use up a jar of grape jelly that didn’t set so that’s another win. Having an infant really changed what I had the ability to make and accomplish this holiday season and that’s essentially why I’m sharing this recipe. It’s so simple and easy that anyone can do it. It would even be great for someone who is newly postpartum (something I’m constantly thinking of lately). It’s so important to help out new moms and there are too few of people out there doing it.
