Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent Review Brianna Hart, April 9, 2024April 9, 2024 This site may contain links to affiliate websites, and we receive an affiliate commission for any purchases made by you on the affiliate website using such links. If you’re embarking on a non-toxic journey laundry detergent is one of the easiest points to start. Unfortunately, I’ve found a lot of them to be very lack-luster and I think that’s one of the reasons I think people either don’t switch or end up switching back. There are a lot of suggestions that people give too but laundry detergent lasts a while and it can be frustrating if it’s not working and you feel like you are stuck with it. I’m here to provide my honest opinion and I want you to know that although these are linked I am not affiliated with any of these brands so I’m not being paid to get you hooked on them. This is my honest non-toxic laundry detergent review to help you make good choices on your non-toxic journey. Molly’s SudsMolly’s Suds was one of the first laundry detergents that I tried when we started our non-toxic journey. I tried the powdered kind and I really didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it. I don’t like using powdered laundry detergent because I’ve heard it can be hard on your machine and your septic. Out here in the country, we have our own septic that we are responsible for so I try to be very mindful of that since they are crazy expensive to fix. I guess if I had to choose, this one falls somewhere in the middle of the road. I won’t buy it if I don’t have to but if the other options weren’t available I’d grab it. A quick disclaimer, I have not tried the liquid detergent yet. When I tried it they did not have it so this review is based solely on the powdered detergent. AttitudeI know people, in my own family, that really love Attitude detergent. My mom and sister use it religiously and swear that they love it. I, on the other hand, am on the fence. To me, this one is just a middle of the road detergent. It reminds me of a cleaner version of Tide or Gain but with a softer scent. In fact, I don’t think it really leaves any sort of scent on your clothes. It doesn’t leave them stinky but it doesn’t leave them smelling good too. Can’t we just get the best of both worlds? That’s what I’m on the hunt for. BiokleenMy Biokleen review is similar to Attitude. I do feel like it does a really good job of cleaning our clothes. They definitely feel and look good. They don’t have that nice smell to them though, and that still makes me a tiny bit sad. I know that it’s only my expectation because it’s what I was used to for almost 30 years of my life. I also know that when people have super strongly scented clothes, even when it’s detergent, it gives me a headache or makes me cough. This is honestly one of my favorite detergents. It’s a good price point and does a good job. If I had to choose one from the list to recommend, it’d be this one.Azure CleanAs far as price goes, Azure Clean is the best that you can get. For the price, it does a decent job. My husband really likes the ylang-ylang. However, it’s not the cleanest of the clean. I did a full review of their products and while they are better options, they aren’t the best options. Now that we have a baby crawling all over and chewing on all of our things, I try to be very mindful of our cleaners and that’s why I don’t necessarily use this one. However, I do keep it on hand as a prep item. Again, for the price, it’s one of the best that you can get. I also use it for things like rags and rugs that get washed often. PuracyOne of the things I like about Puracy is that they come with a pump and super easy directions. One pump for small loads and two pumps for big ones. Plus, that’s such a small amount of detergent! Makes me feel like I’m definitely getting my money’s worth. This is honestly probably the number one detergent on the list, in my humble opinion. It leaves your clothes with a subtle clean smell and they actually feel clean when they are done. The subtle scent was so important to me because I miss having my clothes smell clean and this is one of the only detergents that did that. This brand becomes even more cost efficient after you make the initial purchase because from then on you can just buy the refill pouches too. An easy way to stock up.Truly FreeI did a full review on Truly Free in this post. It’s actually something I’m quite sad about because my opinion varies by the product instead of the entire line of products. Unfortunately, the laundry soap was one of the items that I did not enjoy. I felt like it made our clothes smell really good but didn’t do a great job of actually cleaning them. For instance, my husband’s shirts still had deodorant on them after they had been washed. His jeans didn’t seem like they were getting very clean either. It’s sad because I loved their other cleaners like the stain and odor spray and the multipurpose cleaner. Needless to say, I have not found one brand that I like for everything- STILL.In Summary: Non-Toxic Laundry Detergent ReviewI realize that a non-toxic laundry detergent review isn’t that exciting but it is something that matters to me for a couple reasons. First, I think it’s important to have more than one option when you are trying to switch over from the toxic cleaners. I’ve used all of these over the course of about 3 years and I don’t want you to have to take that time. I also think it’s important to look at the cost of the detergents. In this difficult economy, it’s important to spend our money wisely. I’m not one to throw things out but I know it can be frustrating to have to go through an entire bottle when your clothes just don’t feel clean. Laundry stripping is definitely an option to help get them taken care of too, but hopefully this prevents you from buying anything that doesn’t work for you. My favorite detergents on the list: Puracy, BioKleen, and Attitude (in that exact order too).Am I missing any from the list? What is your favorite laundry detergent? Or a detergent recipe? I’d love to try some homemade detergent as well. Leave us your recipe in the comments.Share Cleaning Product Review cleaningLaundryNon-Toxic
