Spring Homestead Projects
As soon as the snow melts in the spring we hit the ground running. Here’s what we’ve been up to!
Homesteading is what we do! Our homestead happens to be 5 acres in the heart of West Michigan where we blessed to be raising our animals and growing some of our food.
What is homesteading? Well it’s a lot of what the world considers “old school.” To sum it up in one sentence I like to refer it to being as self sustainable as possible. Things like cooking from scratch, growing our own food, raising animals, reducing waste, and living a non-toxic lifestyle. This can come in a lot of different forms. Your homestead will likely not look the same as ours.
There are a lot of things that we are still learning on our homestead. We only started putting this into practice in 2020. Our journey with fertility problems lead us to this lifestyle. Initially, I wanted to reduce the toxic burden in our lives. That lead to switching products out of our home. From there we learned about the toxins in our food and decided to start growing some of our own. Honestly, it’s just taken off from there!
We now dabble in things like bulk food storage and emergency preparedness. We’ve started to grow our skills in gardening and raising animals. The most exciting part is that we are growing each and every year. We continue to pick up more skills and, more importantly, we continue to gain more animals.
We are actively pursuing leaving the rat race as much as humanly possible. This homestead is our whole world!
