Non-Toxic Way To Clean Windows Brianna Hart, January 8, 2024January 29, 2024 Cleaning windows is one chore I don’t find very satisfying. It feels like a lot of work with just a little reward. I mean, can people actually tell that our windows are dirty? When I visit someone’s home I genuinely feel like I can’t tell if they have or have not washed their windows. The outside gets washed by the rain anyways! It is important to me to get the dog prints off my windows though and that is probably the sole reason I clean them. Those nose prints are hard to get off though which is why I’m sharing the best non-toxic way to clean windows in your home! Been There, Done That The way I was taught to clean windows was with Windex and paper towels. Not only was it super toxic (which we didn’t realize at the time) but it was also super wasteful. I could go through a half to whole roll of paper towels cleaning at my parent’s house. Once I set off on our non-toxic journey the Windex got used up and didn’t make its way back into our home. What Did I Try? My next steps in trying to find a non-toxic way to clean windows followed a similar method. Some sort of cleaner with paper towels. I tried the thrive glass cleaner, Azure glass cleaner, and finally the Brandless glass cleaner. All of them worked okay. The Brandless was specifically my favorite cleaner because the cost is so darn cheap. Had I not found this new method, I’d have stuck with Brandless and paper towels. Paper towels are expensive though and I was so tired of having to order from here and there to try to get all of the household products that I need. I kept hunting for more solutions that were sustainable and easy to use. E-Cloths One month I was pursuing the sales on Azure and these e-cloths were on sale. I decided to give them a try as their price point was pretty good. Even not on sale, the price of glass cleaning e-cloths on Amazon is still great too! Especially when you realize you can use them month after month. Just a few months and the cost becomes lower than cleaner and paper towels. How to Use The set comes with two cloths and directions but in case you want to know more before buying I’ll let you know how to use them. One cloth is thicker with a textured pattern and the other is thinner like a polishing cloth. You’ll get the thick one wet with water before starting. It shouldn’t be dripping wet, just damp. Scrub your window with the wet cloth and then wipe it down with the dry one. Easy as that! The best part is that it takes very little “elbow grease” to get hard to remove stuff off. Our dogs love rubbing their noses on the windows and it takes me just a couple minutes to clean our entire slider door that gets covered. It’s so simple and honestly a little shocking how easy it is (or rather, how difficult we made it before). Cleaning the Cloths The biggest thing I was worried about was cleaning them. How would they keep working if I couldn’t clean them? Surely these magical cloths had to be washed specially. I was not correct. Throw them in the washer with the rest of your stuff and move on. Yes, they still work just as good after washing too. In Summary: Non-Toxic Way to Clean Windows There are a couple big draws to this method over others. The first- it’s sustainable. I’ve been using these for almost two years now and they still work just as good as when I first bought them. The second- the cost. I had really wanted to buy the Norwex cloths because I heard good things about them but the price point kept me from doing it. I can’t compare them because I won’t buy Norwex but I’d bet they are similar in performance with the e-cloths being cheaper and much easier to order. It won’t be long and it’ll be time for spring cleaning…again! Grab these cloths before you get started to make the job easier. I’m not sure about you, but we’re already ready for spring around here. This dreary winter has been depressing but the days are already getting longer again and we are looking forward to it. Share Cleaning Non-Toxicnon-toxic cleaningNon-toxic homewindows
I have heard great things about e cloths. And many people who have tried both prefer them to Norwex! Wondering if they leave any lint/fuzzies behind? Reply
No! I haven’t had any issues with them leaving anything behind at all, just a super clean window 🙂 Reply
